PRAIRIE REEF
CENTRAL PARK BOULEVARD MEDIAN
ARTIST: ERICK JOHNSON (FORT COLLINS, CO)
COMMISSION: $150,000
INSTALLED: 2010
This median project features a large composition of 20-foot-high, kinetic-steel, prairie-grass forms combined with curvilinear lines. The piece depicts wind currents that swirl down from the continental divide. The tall, abstracted prairie grasses are also emblematic of how the high plains move in response to the wind. This artwork spans two medians and serves as a landmark for the South End neighborhood in Central Park.
