UPDATE! The students at Isabella Bird have picked a name, Galaxy! Welcome to the mounted patrol Galaxy we look forward to seeing you around Central Park.
As many of you may already know the Denver Police Department has a Mounted Patrol Unit. Perhaps you’ve even seen the officers and horses patrolling the neighborhoods of Central Park recently. What some of you may not know however is the horses in our Mounted Patrol Unit are donated to DPD by a very generous citizen and longtime supporter of the Denver Police Department – Betty Robertson. Betty Robertson is a retired school teacher and has been providing the Denver Police Department with horses for many years. In fact she gave DPD a new horse a month ago.
Now for the fun part – the new horse needs a name. In the past, and to honor Betty Robertson’s generosity, the naming rights of the new horse went to the children of a Denver elementary school. Therefore DPD is proud and very excited to announce that Isabella Bird Community School was selected as the school to select the name! This is a great occasion and hasn’t happened since the last horse named in 2012. DPD couldn’t be more pleased to partner with Isabella Bird Community School.
The following is the schedule for the horse naming celebration:
Tuesday 4/18 at 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm – The Denver Police Mounted Patrol Unit will introduce their horse to the students. This will include an opportunity pet the horse. Also, the children will submit 10 names for consideration. Three names will be selected as the final choices. Isabella Bird students will then cast their votes.
Tuesday 5/2 at 2 pm to 3 pm – Students will announce the name of the horse – where the whole school will be present for the announcement.
