Katie has been with the Rose Midwifery program since 2005.

Prior to coming to Central Park, she was a NICU nurse at Children’s Hospital in Chicago. “Working in the NICU, you have instances where babies are there for months and you get very involved with the families,” Katie said. “It was mentally challenging but emotionally draining.” She changed to Labor and Delivery nursing and fell in love with it.

“After three years of Labor and Delivery, I decided to go back to school to become a nurse midwife. This seemed like a natural transition,” Katie said.

Katie and her family moved to Central Park the same year she began the midwifery program. “I enjoy getting to know the community and developing new relationships…and you can’t beat the commute.”

Rose Midwifery provides healthcare for low risk, normal and higher-risk pregnancies. “We also provide healthcare for women during all stages of life – from adolescence through menopause,” Katie said.

“Rose Midwifery is a hospital-owned center and collaborates with a great group of doctors,” Katie said. “The doctors consist of four, on-call doctors from Rose Medical Center who are able to take care of high risk patients at our office.”

“One challenge is helping women get past the stereotypes they have of midwifes,” Katie said.

“All babies are born at Rose Medical Center and deliveries can be medicated or unmedicated.” Midwifes spend time teaching and guiding each patient because each pregnancy is a unique experience.” “Our approach to child birth is a more holistic view, providing a team approach, not a dictated approach,” she said.  “Always keeping in mind the safety and health of the mother and baby.”

Rose Midwifery shares offices with Mile High Plastic Surgery and Rose Women’s Care at 2975 Roslyn St., Suite 140. It’s open Tuesdays, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Thursdays, 8 a.m. – noon.
